Peer Assessment of Trailer Analyses

Rohin (Face of Fear)

In this production there are a number of shots and camera movements present. An example of when a shot is used to create a certian affect, is the use of the close up, this is done to show the actors expression, as a result the audience knows how the actor is feeling and builds tension. At times a high angled shot is used, this is done to show one character is superior then the other. To coincide with this, a long shot is used to show the surroundings, which helps the audience to visualise whats actaully going on. In the trailer not alot of pans, tilts or zooms are used, however this could be seen as an advantage as sometimes certain camerawork could look unprofessional and very budgeted.

There are numerous camera movements and camera shots used in this piece of production and a prime example of this is when the directors used a close up shot to perceive an actors facial expressions which would create an effect and allows the audience to feel a connection with the actor through the feelings they are presenting, thus building suspense, and this can be seen at 1:17 of the trailer. There are many times throughout this trailer that a low angle shot is used, and this could have been because it emphasizes on the character being superior over others, as a result makes the audience more engaged because of the characters authenticity. In 0:48 of the trailer a long shot is used to focus on the characters body language, as in this part of the trailer the audience can see that the girl is frightened as she looks around feeling worried something bad may happen, therefore the audience might have a sympathetic feeling towards this girl which keeps the audience more engaged. The camera movements used in this trailer created a theatrical effect to keep the audience feeling in suspense and formed an enigma to keep them interested to go and watch the film.

Gurvinder (Saving Faith)

The sound involved in the trailer was mainly non-diegetic because of the soundtrack. The soundtrack coincides with the trailer quite good as matches the mood and situation going on in 'Saving Faith'. Such as at the start of the trailer when all is peaceful the soundtrack doesn't oppose to it. When the trailer becomes more open and shows the main conventions of the film such as violence the soundtrack alters to that particular genre. In terms of diegetic sound there wasn't a great deal of it in the trailer. However in most trailers they don't usually have this type of audio in it. When the violence appeared in the trailer the sound when someone was hit against the wall made it feel more realistic. Also this diegetic sound is felt by the viewers and creates an impact as they are aware that someone is inflicting pain.

A type music used in a trailer would automatically have connotations of what the genre is, and this trailer had a thriller/horror theme to it which tells the audience what they film might be about. A non-diegetic convention was used in this trailer because it created ambiguity to inveigle the audience and create an atmosphere which gave the trailer a bit authenticity and set an enigma. The soundtrack that is used in this trailer is mostly non-diegetic sound which was added for a dramatic effect to entice the audience. This soundtrack was exceptional as it set the mood for the audience to feel more engaged and it was used to introduce the characters. The audience can clearly see that at the beginning of the trailer the soundtrack was very mellow and calm which indicated a happy and peaceful moment. However when the trailer became more open and showed the main conventions of the film such as violence the soundtrack changed to that particular genre of thriller/horror. The diegetic sound used in this trailer made a connection with the audience because it created an impact when the actors were fighting, which made the audience aware that someone is inflicting pain.

Suhur (Face of Fear)

The lighting of the trailer and the beginning institution that was used, Warner Bros pictures was dark lighting. The use of the dark clouds were all conventions used to create a frightening climax to the trailer in order to fulfill the titles credentials. The dark clouds connotes dark and intensifying trailer.

The title of this trailer already tell the audience what the film might be about because it has a connotation of violence and frightening images which tells the audience it’s a horror theme, which already engages them to the trailer. At the beginning of the trailer the audience can see that the lighting used is low key lighting, this again relates to the genre because of the dark and gloomy colours for example the Warner Brothers picture shown when the trailer is starting has a shadowy lighting effect to it. The dark clouds are conventions that were used to generate a fear-provoking atmosphere to make the audience feel at unease thus making them more focused to continue watching. Face of Fear is a trailer that strived to elicit fear, horror and terror responses from audience, using its low key lighting.

Cross Media Studies Research Task

Sci-Fi

The three texts we have chosen to analyse are Mutant X, X Men and The Twilight Zone Radio Series, the genre that links them all together is science fiction as they all involve speculations based on current or future science and technology.

Mutant X

(TV Series)

When a secret government project to create genetic mutants goes wrong resulting in them being released into the general population one of the scientists responsible, Adam has sworn to try and help those who have been affected by it, while his co-partner, Mason Eckhart plans on using the project for his own ends. Adam assembles four mutants and forms the group “Mutant X” to help mutants everywhere, and oppose Eckhart.
Following up the a comic book, Mutant X went on to become a very well known show with all 3 series being released on DVD.

Mutant X was television series that

first aired on 6th October 2001 to the 17th May 2004, it
followed
the adventures of a team of h
uman mutants possessing extraordinary powers as a result of genetic engineering. Like hundreds of other unsuspecting subjects, these new mutants were altered in secret experiments conducted in a covert government project. Realising that events have spun out of control, the organisation that created them is now hunting them down in an urgent "product recall." Mutant X's mission is to seek out their fellow mutants to help them come to terms with their new amazing abilities and protect them from their creators.

Even though Mutant X is no longer being shown it was originally created by Avi Arad who is the chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, a Marvel director, and chairman, CEO (chief executive officer) and founder of Marvel Studios.

The show was originally distributed by Tribute Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment which was the producer and International distributor of Mutant X.

X Men

(Film)

X Men is a 2000 superhero film based on the fictional Marvel Comic characters of the same name. Directed by Bryan Singer, the film stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Bruce Davidson, James Marsden, Halle Barry and Tyler Mane.

The time is the near future. There is a rift between normal humans and mutants. These mutants have gifts, these gifts can give them supernatural powers. X Men focuses on the ongoing conflict between Professor Xavier's X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants, led by Magneto. Magneto intends to mutate world leaders at a United Nations summit with a machine he has built to bring about acceptance of mutantkind, but Xavier realizes this forced mutation will only result in their deaths.

X Men started off as a comic book series which later developed into a trilogy of films based on the original comic books.

The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas

(Radio Series)

With a mixture of horror, fantasy and drama The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas feature a full cast, music and sound effects and today’s biggest celebrities in modern radio dramatizations by Dennis Etchison of creator Rod Serling’s classic scripts. Hosted by Stacy Keach, The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas will keep you glued to the edge of your seat whether listening in your home or while driving in your car.

The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas is a nationally syndicated radio adaptation of the classic television series The Twilight Zone, launched in October 2002. Many of the stories are based on Rod Serling's scripts from the original Twilight Zone series and are slightly expanded and updated to reflect contemporary technology and trends; for example, the mention of “cell phones” and “CD-ROMs” which of course weren't around when the television show aired in the 1960s. Taking Serling's role as narrator is Stacy Keach.

Sirius satellite radio channel 118, “Radio Classics” and on XM satellite radio channel 163, Sonic Theater. It was originally distributed by Dick Brescia Associates but later distributed by Syndication Networks, beginning in August of 2007 the series became distributed through Westwood One which is a major American radio network.

...Similarities and Differences...

The
main similiarity between these three texts is that they are all sci-fibased broadcast fiction texts as they have supernatural elements within them, for example, they all focus on things of which you wouldn't necessarily think would actually happen in everyday life. The similarity between X men and Mutant x is that
  • they are both created by Marvel studios
  • Both have comic books
  • Both shown in the USA
  • Both sound mixes are from Dolby Digital EX
  • There cirtification are both in Australia
The differencies between these three text is that they
  • Twilight Zone doesnt focus on mutants
  • It has different elements of the supernatural world
  • There not distributed by the same company
  • They don't have the same production companies
...Promotion...

The target audience for these texts are probably those who enjoy things based on science fiction and those who like a bit of action.

With Mutant X being distributed by Tribute Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment which was the International distributor of it, it was able to be promoted world wide as many people from different countries were able to view it.

As X Men is distributed by 20th Century Fox, the trailer was shown within cinemas before other films made by 20th Century Fox were shown, the film was rated 15 which allowed a wider range of audience to view it as it would have grabbed their attention if they were interested in this aspect of science fiction.
In addition to this, pop ups while browsing the Internet also had a means of advertising the film while posters did aswell as it allowed a number of people to see it therefore expanding the number of those who watch it.

Those who enjoyed watching the original series of The Twilight Zone would have listened to it on the radio while driving and at work. The Twilight Zone Radio Series was able to be promoted through the use of it's website which enabled listeners to listen to different stories and to find out who would be starring in them.

Analysis of Trailer 4

Saving Faith

Saving faith is a powerful, moving and emphatic film that will undoubtedly connect with the audience with all its emotions it sends out. The use of hybrid genres gives this film the typical conventions and connotations that are associated with Hollywood, because of its hard-hitting, gritty genre. This film is about a boy called Jowls, whose life is turned upside-down when his girlfriend Laura is killed by a mafia leader Simon. At the beginning of the trailer we see a lot of camera shots like close up, which gives an emphasis to the characters reactions and body language. When the camera is used to capture the characters emotions this shot used is extreme close up and this builds an exciting feeling for the audience because they don't know what might happen next. Some medium shots are used to show the characters movements and body language for example when they are fighting the camera moves back to show the actions so the viewers are able to see what is happening and make judgement of the characters. There are numerous camera movements used in this trailer, for example when Jowls is standing on the stairs of his house the camera movement used there is "low angle shot", this is because it gives an emphasis on the character and shows his power and rage he is showing as well as 1:24 of the trailer when he is holding a gun and a low angle shot is used, this might indicate power because he is holding a gun. There are more camera movements used like 'point of view shot' and this can be seen at 0:55 of the trailer and this is when one of the characters is point a gun at Jowls, but this is seen from his angle, and this creates a more dramatic scene for the audience to enjoy because they see it from his point of view.

The sound used in this trailer wasn't very dramatic, although is some parts the music does speed up for example when the characters are holding guns, or when they are fighting the music is faster and there is more hype to it and this might be because it enlightens the mood and gives the audience a sense of feeling when watching the trailer, which gives the trailer a bit of authenticity. There are two types of sound used in this trailer diagetic and non-diagetic sound, a diagetic sound simply means dialogue and non-diagetic sound means things like sound tracks. The diagetic sound used in this trailer is mostly dialogues used as written dialogues, for example in between some clips there are written dialogue used like "his world turned upside-down" or "his love gone", these written dialogue gives it a story for the audience to, which is very smart for the directors to uses because as well as showing a story using written dialogue gives it a story. The non-diagetic sound is used a part of the story which helps give this trailer an excellent narrative structure for example when Jowls girlfriend is killed, there a soft mellow sound used to go with the story which makes the audience feel more sympathetic towards Jowls, however after his girlfriend is killed, the music changes because the characters change for instance in 0:47 of the trailer more dramatic actions are seen and more fighting scenes thus the music changes because a new story is told of how the main character Jowls sets out for revenge, and the music is more up beat like a sound track is used as a voice over, which engages the audience even more and gives it more of a suspense.

The editing used sets a certain enigma to the trailer itself, because of the characters body language the editing helps when they use cut. there is a use of fade in and out used, as seen on the trailer at 1:00 to 1:01, this clearly shows that the pace used when editing this part was fairly slow to give it more of a theatrical sight for the audience and each clip gives clear insight and connects very well with the next clip, so the cuts used were excellently produced. There is also a lot of freeze shots used in this trailer for example at 1:20 there is a freeze shot when the boy is pointing a gun at Jowls, and this is used because it intensifies the situation and gives the audience a chance to make judgement of what is going to happen next. The pace of this trailer was very well used with the sound, because at the beginning of the trailer it was quite slow because it showed happy moments with the couple and how they expressed their love for each other, but what the fighting began the pace of the trailer was pretty fast and this may have been because it give the film a bit more edge to it, to dramatise it more. The key use of editing used in the trailer were mostly dissolves and fade in and outs and this was used to give durability and continuity from one clip to another, thus keeping the audience engaged.

The mise-en-scene featured in this trailer were the costumes, lighting, actors, props, length of trailer and representation. The costumes that the actors wear depicts the target audience the directors were aiming for. The clothes mostly represents teenagers because of the hoodies and tracksuits that they wear thus showing this film is aimed at teens, although there is a slight change in the use of clothes and its connotations in this trailer because at the beginning of the trailer Jowls wears normal clothes e.g. jumper and jeans at 0:26 of the trailer, however when he gets angry and goes looking for the men who killed his girlfriend he changes his clothes into hoodies and tracksuits which automatically indicates a realistic approach on teenagers and their clothes. The lighting used in this trailer was high key lighting and low key lighting. For example when high key lighting was used was from 0:14 to 0:20 of the trailer, and this might have been because it indicated happy times when Jowls was with his girlfriend but when he takes matter into his own hand the lighting becomes low key for example from 0:28 to 0:43 its all dark features of the setting which indicates something bad will happen which incises the suspense for the audience and sets an atmosphere, which is a very good technique to use. The actors used in this trailer are teenagers because they can connect to the target audience and set a realistic approach in what teenagers deal with in real life. The props used in this trailer were mostly guns but an odd occasion where cricket bats and shovel was used, and this could be used to raise awareness of the raise in gun crime, although there was a lot of scene where violence was shown, the use of guns were only shown as a means of protecting yourself rather than using it upon someone. The setting of this trailer the outskirts of West London where violence is a major issue and gun on gun crime is a culture. The length of this trailer is 2:01 which is pretty short compared to other trailers, but because of its powerful and moving shots it tells a story very authentically which will certainly keep the audience interested. The representation of this is about a boy whose world is turned upside-down when his girlfriend is murdered and sets revenge on the people who did this to her, basically this teaches people not to take matters into their own hands because bad things will endure their mission.

In my opinion I think this trailer was very capturing because the way it informs, educates and entertains sets its own status and most definitely sets a hype for the audience to enjoy. It's creativiy and structure makes it a hard hitting trailer which characterizes the hardship that people face when they lose a loved one. This trailer sets a realistic band for people to realise that life isn't one big happy place and that everyone faces hardship, but taking matters into our own hands doesn't help. The actors played an outstanding performance and overall this trailer worthy of its excepectional praises. Very well done to the actors and directors of this admirable and inspirational trailer.

Analysis Of A Trailer 3

A Rapper's Ambition

A Rapper's Ambition is a 2008 film trailer that follows the journey of an upcoming rap artist. This trailer dipicts the struggling disire of a rapper, who originates from a Asian working class background for him to succeed in the world of music he must face some hardship.

The Narrative- the narrative stucture of this trailer centres around a struggling small scale rapper with big ambitions. His character embarks on a turbulent journey in which he encounters many obstacles which he must overcome in order to achieve the success he desires within the industry.

Costumes- the clothes that the actor wear in this trailer shows what target audience they are aiming to show this film to. The clothes mostly represent teenagers by the hoodies and tracksuites that they wear thus showing this film is aimed at teenagers. an example of this is there is a clip in the trailer where a group of teenagers and standing together with thier hoods up and looking down, this automatically has a connotation of the realistic view on teenagers and how thier clothes can have an negative impact on them.

Lighting- the lighting in this trailer varies depending on who the characters are with and where they are, for example when they are outside during the day its light, however when they are in a crowed and holding guns the lighting becomes very dark and dim, which indicates something bad will ocurre. Although throughout the whole of the trailer the lighting is very dark which shows and dipics a sudden darkness growing within our societies today.

Actors- the actors that are shown in this trailer are mostly teenagers, which automatically shows who the film is aimed at, by having teenagers within a film its target audience will be teenagers. The actors proformed very well in this trailer and protrayed an image of how our youths are like in todays socities and the struggles they face to make they ambitions come true.

Make up- there wasn't much make up used in this fim because not much voilence occured where people got really injured, apart from the use of guns not much make up was used for the actors to show any pain or injuries.

Props- the props that were mostly used in this trailer was a glass bottles which showed the character throwing it and shashing it on the groud. This indicates that there weren't much voilence in this trailer using guns, but it only shows a charaters journey to becoming a rapper.

Setting- the setting of this film was set in deprrived areas of West London where teenager crime is very high in. It mostly shows back allyways of streets where most teenagers tend to hang out.

Sound Effect- the sound effect that was used in this trailer was phenomenal because of all the beats and sound overlap that was used created an atmosphere for the audience and set the mood for the film. It mostly reflected on the character because a lot of rapping was used, the music went very well with it and keeps the audience watching.

Camera shots/ Editing- the camera shots that were used in this trailer were mostly close ups, this was used to show the characters facial expressions and in some parts of the trailer it would show a frozen frame to create more tension for the audience. The use of editing and camera angles gave it a dramatic effect, in particular the reversing bottle shot which added the genuine and creativity of the trailer.

Length of trailer- the length of this trailer is 2:06 which is actully short compared to other film trailers, although it does capture the audiences attention and keep them interested. This might be because if the trailer is really long people will lose interest but keeping it short and showing important parts makes the audience feel in suspence and want to watch more.

Language- the language used in this trailer is mostly West London ghetto slange, and becuase of all the rapping some words are hard to understand and this dipics an image of how teenagers might talk nowadays and this helps create a story for the audience to enjoy more of.

Appeal- the target audience for this trailer is aimed at teenagers from 15-19 years old. this may be because it's shows teenagers struggle through life and in the music industry and a lot of teenagers might reflect upon this matter, thus the appeal for this trailer is teenagers.

Representation- the representation of this trailer A Rapper's Ambition shows the struggles of teenagers in the UK and how many peoples talents can lead no where if people aren't determind to succeed in life. this trailer represents alot of issues that are facing people in the music industry and how hard the competition is, if someone is not financially stable.

Institutional Value- this trailer educates and inspires people to not give up in life, if someone has a talet then they should try their best in making something of it. if people are detemind in life them thier ambitions can take them very far places and they can succeed in life and for this story of this one character he inspires others that success can come in the music industry with hardwork.

Evaluation of trailer- In my opinion i think that this trailer is the best trailer created from all the trailers i've seen, because firsly it shows different sides of life through one characters stuggles. It educates people and motivates them to do something they feel they are good at. And finally it teaches the audience the with a bit of hard work in like something can be achieved in life. All these factors combined to together create a fantastic, hard hitting trailer which epitomizes the hardship young people face.

Well done to the directors of this trailer!!!!

Individual Case Studies

Analysis Trailer 2

Bullet Boy

"
you only get one shot in life"

“Bullet Boy throbs with restless energy. It’s grainy, gritty, authentic. It’s a desperate wail for help at a time when the words “British” and “gun culture” belong in the same sentence. And it’s heart-on-bloodied sleeve conviction and smoking gun editing recall the American black cinema......

BULLET BOY tells the story of two brothers growing up in one of London's most volatile neighbourhoods, where a minor street clash escalates into a cycle of violence that has tragic repercussions. A powerful and moving tale of young men on the edge, it reflects an emerging modern reality within Britain's inner cities.

The film explores themes of friendship, rivalry and revenge amid a generation of boys to whom guns have
become a fact of life. When 18 year old Ricky is released from a Youth Offenders Institute he desperately wants to avoid falling back into his criminal past. However, his claustrophobic world and the huge pressure to conform proves inescapable.

This film creates suspense and keeps the audience on their feet, it tells a story about a man attempting to straighten out his life, with negative results. therefore this film can reflect upon the target audience as it portrays what a typical
teenagers life on the streets can be like. The target audience for this movie is mostly teenagers but a spec of adults might watch it, because of all the guns, drugs, sex and violence it shows that there is a awareness of what life on the streets is really like. it also makes people aware of the danger of "the street life".

The narrative structure of Bullet Boy is a tough heartfelt British social picture which compose, powerful, panoramic wide shots of East London and its unexpected reaches of countryside. It also controls the narrative carefully, with no cliché racist coppers, and the cast is skilfully handled particularly Walters who always looks good, giving plausible understated performances.

Costumes-
the clothes that the actors wear in this film is mostly tracksuits hoodies and caps which puts a big focus and represents the youths in todays society. Although in some parts of the movies the actor (Ricky) does have a change of clothes and wears casual jeans and t-shitrt. The clothes that the actors wear puts a major stereotype upon then which then refers them to things like guns, shop-lifting and gang fights.

Lighting- The lighting throughout this movie depics a genre and sets the mood for the audience. for instance some parts of the trailer i.e. gun fight the lighting goes dim and dark which represents something happeining or someone getting shot. However in some places in the movie like when the camera shows the city at the beginning its dark and cloudy which gives the audience a frame of mindof how the movie might.

Actors/ Actresses- The actors that were chosen for this movie were outstandly chosen very well for instance Ashley Walters who plays Ricky is well known for his music career in so soild crew and appeard in many movies like Life and Lyrics, Get Rich or Die Tryin', Sugarhouse and ofcourse Bullet Boy. All these movies are connected in a ways because they all show gun crime and are mostly aimed and viewed by youths and some adults. With his background in gun crime Ashley represents a youths life and through his movies he tells a story about his past and his ambitions for the future. His preformances are outstanding and protrays and image for our youths today.

Make-up- the make-up used in this movie isn't that bad, although is some scenes there are brutal fights where make-up is used for example there is a scene when one of the actors smashes a car window and blood gushes from his hand and the make-up used was very good and made it seem very realistic.

Props-
the only props that were used in this move were mostly guns, knives and baseball bats. I think this movie raises awareness in gun crime within our society today and how easy it is for young children to have guns for example thier is a clip in this trailer which shows a young boy age maybe 10-11 years old pointing a gun at someone. The issue of gun crime is very important and not only occurs with teenagers but a lot of adults which influences teenagers.

Setting- the setting of this film is set in deprived areas of East London where crime has risen from 12% in 1999 to 15% in 2007.

Length of trailer- the length of this trailer is only 1:28 which is very short compared to other film trailers. However with only 1:28 a lot can be seen because the camera moves very fast and mostly shows scenes of voilence, sex and gun crime, which in some cases people want to watch and keeps the audience in suspence which makes them want to go and watch the film.

Language- the language used in this film is very characterised with our youth today and a lot of slang is used in this film and it creates a status within some societies.

Appeal-
The target audience for this movie is (15-24) mostly teenagers butsome adults might watch it, because of all the guns, drugs, sex and violence it shows that there is a awareness of what life on the streets is really like. it also makes people aware of the danger of "the street life" and shows a very realistic approach in what takes place within our societies.

Sound- I think that the most important part of a film is the sound that is used because it sets a whole level to film because not only does it set the mood for the film it's also based on the genre of the film and the target audeince for example at the start of the trailer the music played is very calm and in the fighting scenes the music is loud and fast beat, which gives it a new aspect and appeals to the target audeince.

Representation- the representation of the film Bullet Boy shows how life can be changed from gun crime and gang fights to having a chance of becoming what they want. It represents teenagers who have been to prison and how hard it is to get a job after being convicted. And finally it shows how living in deprived areas can affecet the people through commiting crimes and using guns. It tells a "typical teenager" in the deprived areas of East London.

Camera shots-
there are different camera shots used throughout this trailer for example clos up shots are used to give a theatrical stress on some charecters and some props like when a gun is show, which represents an importance of the issue. Meduim shots are used when there are fights to to show emtions of both characters, and long shots are used to show different locations for example when the city is shown a long shot angle is used.

Institutional value- this film can be used in different aspects because it can be there to educate people in a way to raise awareness about the issues that are facing not only teenagers but adults because of all the crimes occuring people are effected in different ways. Although there has been many criticisms about films that uses guns because people feel that it influences youths to use guns. Although it also shows how peer pressure occurs very often and how people can change thier lives from being in gun crime to having an ambition and becoming what they want to be. Depending on the message a certain film shows its audience can dipict a new meaning in what people want to watch and if some films are show realistic view of peoples lifestyle and our society.

Analysis Trailer 1
Life and Lyrics

"Live Life At Full Volume"

"An urban Romeo and Juliet that follows the feuds between rival gangs"

The target audience for this movie is for 15-25, i know this because the costumes depict a stereotypical view of hoodies and tracksuits where a "typical" teenager would wear. This movie represents youth culture and gang crimes in deprived areas. Set against the backdrop of London's urban music scene, a young DJ, kDanny, enters a local competition with his crew in the hope of winning the top prize - a recording contract with a major record label. But his crew's chances are threatened when their arch-rivals, The HARD CASH CREW, enter the same competition. Bound by life-long loyalties and fierce neighbourhood rivalries, the two crews are sworn enemies and The HARD CASH CREW, led by the volatile MONEY MAN, will stop at nothi ng to win the prize. When Danny falls for the beautiful and talented singer, Carmen, he is forced to keep their relationship secret after discovering that she is related to MONEY MAN's right-hand man. Caught between his love for Carmen and loyalty to his crew, Danny's secret threatens to jeopardise their futures and, as the competition looms, tensions reach breaking point.

The language this film uses is mostly "ghetto" e.g slang which may relate to teenagers and how they talk because it depics a real imag of what the youth nowaday talk like and how it creates a status within different subcultures. The sort of language used in films can play an important role withing the whole of the movie and the certain characters used tends to make the movies more realistic for example this movie has teena
gers mostly in in, therefore it mostly targeted at teenagers. the lighting this movies uses dark colours which gives it a stereotype of voilence and drug use with guns because having dark colours withing a movie can represent something bad occuring or a gang fights.

The camera shots in this movie tell a story because it shows two sides to a story, and it has mostly close up shots and media shots. close up shots are usually there to show the actors and actreses facial expressions and medium shots show the loc ations of the movie. The length of this trailer is 1:44 minutes, this may be because the camera shots move so quickly to keep the audience in suspence which makes it more effective for the views to watch, because they never know what might happen next. The institutional values of this movie tells people and views of what the real issue is about when it comes to competitions with teenagers and how far they might go to see the other suffer therefore it does educate people in the "real life".

Kidulthood

Kidulthood is a 2006 British drama film about the life of several teenagers in the depreived Ladbroke Grove and Latimer Road area of Inner West London.

This Music Video to Kidulthood and Adulthood

Kidulthood and Adulthood Film Review

on the "Teen Media Forums" I started a discussion with my target audience about what their opinions are towards the movies Kidulthood and Adulthood and what they think this movies represents. I also asked what they like and didn't like and finally what this movie teaches people.

Some people responded saying:

I think the movie Kidulthood is meant to represent the youths living in London. The movie shows peer pressure and how easy it is to get with the wrong crowd. The movie allows others to see a day in the life of teenagers.
I think the movie is a bit extreme with the way they portray female teenagers as they are shown to be like prostitutes.Overall i enjoyed the film as it was showed troubled teenage in London but in a humorous way and in a way in which other teens can relate to. What i didn’t like about this movie is that it only showed the bad side of teens in London such a teen pregnancy, knife crime, drugs a theft and didn’t portray the pleasant things.

Adulthood is the sequel to Kidulthood, this movie shows the characters six years on. I think this movie is trying to get the point across that even if you have a rough start at life its never too late to fix it as the movie is based on a convict trying to sort his life out and clear the air with the friends of the boy he stabbed. What i liked about this movie is that unlike Kidulthood it portrays some positive points such as how one character overcomes peer pressure and decides to get educated and go uni and also another character learns how to forgive an enemy. What I disliked about this movie is that there wasn’t much humor in this movie as to Kidulthood; therefore it was on a much serious note.

I think that this film is a fair portrayal of today’s youth. I, being 17 myself, see a lot of this behaviour amongst my age group - I think the film is accurate in its implications which i liked very much..

I found the film accurate of what teenagers are like today. I, being a teenager myself, know that there are some people who act like this and all their ambitions are sex, drugs, violence etc. I think it is an honest, down to earth look at life in London today for some teenagers.
